Last night, at around 10pm, my phone rang.  It was Ken, and I found myself rushing to answer it despite the fact that I was dead tired and about to fall asleep. By rushing, I mean quickly reaching over to my nightstand, clicking the speaker button, and saying “Hi”.

I hadn’t heard from him in a week, and the last time we talked I kinda felt blown off. To be fair, I called while he was watching a TV show that he expressed that he did want to watch.  Basically, he told me he was busy, but we kept talking. Then he quickly said he had to go, and hung up.

He didn’t call back when the show was over or even attempt to contact me until last night, so I pretty much assumed that he wasn’t interested.

Then he calls. (Just like you men like to do)

He invites me to go out and watch the eclipse last night. I do honestly think that he meant it as a romantic date, and not just a booty-call, though such a late phone call would indicate otherwise.  I just have never got that vibe from him to even think that he’d try to get a booty-call, but I’ve been surprised before I guess.

“Oh, that sounds wonderful, but it’s kinda late notice and I’m tired, and I need to get my sleep.”

“I know. I wish I’d have known about this earlier as well, but I just now found out about it….” Insert some blah blah blah geek talk (hot, but kinda boring as I was tired) about how rare this eclipse was, blah blah blah.. He wasn’t trying to talk me into it, but I could tell he was pretty darn excited about it.

It didn’t take long for me to get my point across that I was going to sleep, and he promised to give me more of a heads-up next time. Or at least, I hope there’s a next time.

Either way, it clearly set a precedent that calling me that late to go anywhere was not going to get a yes.

And.. I know I’m not entirely out of the running. 🙂
